ON this day in 1837 the township of Scone and the parish of Strathearn was gazetted.
There were variations of the spelling, including Scoone and Scoon.
The earliest surviving map is an 1836 planning map, which shows the government or “public” town, with the private town of St Aubin’s owned by William Dumaresq and Kelly’s Farm.
The demarcation between the public and private town can still be seen today in St Aubin’s Street: Last of the Divide.
The first streets of Scone included: Aberdeen, Guernsey, Hill, Kelly, Kingdon, Liverpool, Morse, Orthes, St Aubins, Susan and Wingen.
