Melanie said she lost control of the sedan at approximately 9:15am and travelled nearly 300 metres before colliding with the guide rail.

“I am just so glad I didn’t have the kids in the car and I could just concentrate,” she said.

“I was just trying to keep the car on this side of the road (south bound lane) and I didn’t want to hit anyone else, it just felt like I was in a dodgem car and had no control.

“It was really frightening but I’m just glad everyone is ok,” said Melanie Bright.

Police are investigating a truck which may have spilt diesel between Scone and Muswellbrook on the highway and ran out of fuel at the northern approach to Muswellbrook.
