Accident Near Wingen

TRAFFIC is blocked both ways on the new England Highway north of Wingen following an accident, with northbound traffic banked up to the Burning Mountain turnoff and it is expected to be blocked for a matter of hours.

There was a white sedan, a semi-trailer and a ute involved in the collision.

There are three people injured, a 64 year old female has been released from the white sedan, with emergency workers still working to free a 74 year old male from the same car, no status is available for the third.

The Tamworth Westpac chopper is on the scene and will transport the female who has neck an chest injuries to the Tamworth base hospital.

The two other patients will be going by road ambulance to the Tamworth hospital, the Newcastle based Westpac chopper was en route to the scene, but is no longer required.

UPDATE 12:46: Police have confirmed the road is now clear.
