SCONE Rodeo is a favourite on the rodeo circuit for many competitors and most say the crowd has a lot to do with a good rodeo.

This year was the biggest crowd yet, with organisers estimating there were more than 4,000 people today cheering on competitors who had travelled to Scone from across the country to earn points.

Jade Smith, president of the Scone Charity Rodeo said it was the biggest crowd the event has seen.

“We’re think there were more than 4,000 people, which is crazy, but great,” said Mr Smith.

“We’ve had 3,000 to 3,500 before, but this is by far our biggest crowd and as far as inside the arena it was one of our best yet, the stock were outstanding and the cowboys were great, there were no injuries and everything ran smoothly,” he said.

“The guy who won the bareback scored 84 points which is a really high score and 80 points won the bull ride which is also really good, so inside the area it was really high quality.

“We had a lot of kids and we had to run through the parade because we had so many, they had a ball,” he said.

“There would have been about 100 kids and we had a meet and greet with the cowboys and there would have been 200 kids in the arena meeting them, which was good to see,” Jade Smith said.

The bull ride was won by Troy Burtenshaw from Tamworth and Dee Heinemann won the bareback.

Troy Burtenshaw said he looks forward to going to the Scone rodeo each year.

“It’s a good rodeo to come to, a good one to win and one of the bigger ones of the season,” said Mr Burthenshaw.

“The crowd and the people who show up are great and the committee really gets behind it and it makes it a good rodeo when everyone is behind it,” he said.

“Everyone’s friendly which is good to be around and just down the road from Tamworth,” Troy Burtenshaw said.

Troy said he travels most weekends to wherever it takes, for as far as it takes to earn points on the circuit and he is currently standing at fifth.

“It’s nothing to do 800 or 900 kilometres on a weekend to go to rodeos and I try and go every weekend,” he said.

“I got 80 points tonight and it got me the money, so I can’t be any happier than that,” he said.

“The dollars I’ve earned here tonight will go towards the standings and the more dollars you earn the higher you move up the standings,” Troy Burtenshaw said.
