ROUCHEL may have won the iconic cricket match at Belltrees on Saturday, but the day was a triumph for Where There’s A Will, with the community raising approximately $40,000 for positive education such as the Bounce Back program in the Upper Hunter.

Polly Yuille, committee member for Where There’s A Will said they were thrilled with how successful the day had been.

“There were about 300 people and the community spirit was at it’s best,” said Ms Yuille.

“Tom Crawford, a young fellow from Shepparton contacted us via Facebook and said two of his brothers had died of suicide and wanted to come up for our cricket day, so he drove ten hours to join us and he spoke during the change of innings,” she said.

“Another nice touch was Belltrees played Rouchel on the 18th of February so the same day, but in 1893 and Judith White had the ball there from that game and they are going to get a replica one down with a Where There’s A Will on it, so that was a really nice piece of history that was part of the day,” she said.

“There were so many businesses which donated raffle items, nearly 40 items and all really good prizes, then the auction that just went a bit crazy, the raised 9 grand through the Ellerston golf, there was a chopper ride which went for two and a half grand and Gus Boonzaaier horseman donated a prize to break a horse and that went for two and a half grand also,” she said.

“Gus also did a demonstration with a horse he had broken in only two weeks ago and was galloping it around the field, cracking whips and you can image how that went down at the end of a great day,” she said.

“It was just the most spectacular day and around sunset Anto White decided it would be a good idea to get the crowd to form a human race and then they brought the sheep out and had the working dogs working them through the crowd, it was just a really good afternoon,” Polly Yuille said.
