THE polocrosse season has started with a bang for many Bunnan Polocrosse players who have had the opportunity to represent New South Wales on three separate occasions.

It all kicked off on March 11 and 12 at the Muswellbrook Show with the Polocrosse State of Origin series.

The Under 21 State of Origin series between Queensland and New South Wales is always competitive and this year four of the eight NSW players were Bunnan members, with the manager Cathy Finlayson also being from Bunnan.

Abbey Wilson, Alane Moore, Josh Barnett and Joe Wamsley helped NSW take out the series two games to one.

Josh was awarded Best No 1 and Joe took out Best No 3 and also won the Terry Blake Memorial Trophy for Champion NSW Horse & Rider Combination of the series on ‘Efficient’.

A fortnight later eight Bunnan players travelled to the incredible Warwick polocrosse grounds to represent NSW at the Barastoc Interstate Series from March 25 to 27.

Leah Wilson was part of the Junior Girls team that ran out winners; Mitch Wamsley was part of the victorious Junior Boys side; the Under 21 Women’s side won their grade with the help of Alane Moore and Abbey Wilson; Kaylene and Graham Wilson were both selected in the Masters Mixed side, which was undefeated; Alice O’Neil-Shaw was runners-up in the Under 30’s Mixed, and Joe Wamsley, was also runner-up in the Under 21 Men’s team.

Next on the representative calendar for players was the Australian Polocrosse Nationals, which only comes around once every two years.

This year the Nationals were held at Albury from the April 18 to 24.

Bunnan had five members selected to play for NSW. In addition to this, Brad Wamsley coached the NSW Under 12 Open side to victory and Cathy Finlayson managed the NSW Under 21 Mixed, who got runner up.

Leah Wilson was selected to play in the Tri-state Junior Girls team.

Mitch Wamsley helped the NSW Junior Boys team defeat Queensland in the final.

Abbey Wilson was part of the NSW Under 21 Women’s side and came home victorious.

Joe Wamsley and Josh Barnett were both members of the NSW Under 21 Men’s team and Joe was awarded the Champion Intermediate Men’s Australian Stock Horse award on ‘Efficient’.

Graham Wilson played in the NSW Masters Men’s side, which beat Queensland in the final, and Graham was also awarded the Masters Men Best No 2.

These are tremendous results at an extremely high level of competition and the Bunnan Club wishes to congratulate these players.

Keep an eye out for more local polocrosse results from the club carnivals around the region.
