Bunnan Goes West

THIS weekend the firing Bunnan Club will host their annual carnival at the Rosebrook Polocrosse Grounds on Wybong Road, Muswellbrook.

There will be more than 42 teams of horses and riders in attendance to play in grades from A Grade down to the beginners, or ‘Ringers’, comp.

We welcome any spectators to come along and watch the action provided by polocrosse – the King of the One Horse Sports.

Results

OVER the past two weekends Bunnan Polocrosse players have travelled out to Merriwa and then to Gulgong to play the sport they love.

The Merriwa Carnival, held on May 14 and 15 drew a massive seven teams from the Bunnan Club.

The under 12 team of Angus and Sophia Rose, Emily and Jake Wamsley and Roy Lawler were runners up and Angus Rose got Best No 1 and Champion Sub Junior of the Carnival.

The under 16 team of Leah Wilson, Nicole and Clancy Martin, Jilly Rose, Abbey Cross and April Lawler ran out winners, with Jilly Rose picking up Best No 1 and April Lawler getting Best No 3. Clancy Martin was awarded Champion Junior of the Carnival.

The D Grade open side of Ed and Tom Rossington, Lewis Wall, Campbell Rose, Daniel Faint and John Halsted made the final but were beaten by Muswellbrook. John Halsted, in his first game back for years, picked up the Best No 3 prize.

The A Grade women’s side of Alane Moore, Kaylene and Abbey Wilson, Racheal and Sarah Finlayson and Lauren Hunt won their grade in a very close final against Gulgong.

It is the first time that Bunnan women have ever won the A Grade and hopefully there will be more success like this for our women’s team in future. Racheal Finlayson was named Best No 1 while Lauren Hunt picked up Best No 2.

The A Grade men’s side of Josh Barnett, Stephen Sinderberry, Joe and Brad Wamsley, Matt Whitby and Michael Hockings were also victorious in their game and also played a very tight final against Gulgong, winning by one goal.

Stephen Sinderberry got Best No 2 and Joe Wamsley on the mighty ‘Efficient’ got Champion Horse of the Carnival.

Over the weekend of the May 21 and 22 of May Bunnan members had a great weekend at the Gulgong Polocrosse Carnival.

The B Grade men, Ricky Mitchell, Jack Halsted, Graham Wilson, Mitch, Brad and Joe Wamsley, ran out winners and played a very exciting final where the Wamsley trio were on fire!

Mitch Wamsley and ‘Efficient’ picked up Best Horse and Rider Combination of the grade.

The D Grade open team were runner up of their grade and the team consisted of Jon Finlayson, in his first game back in at least three years, Matt Whitby, Sarah Finlayson, Brent Morcom, Clancy Martin and John Halsted.

The C Grade women’s team came home victorious after being undefeated all weekend, congratulations to Leah Wilson, Erica Clarke, Tasia Martin, Racheal Finlayson, April Lawler and Tegan Cornish, who was awarded Best Horse and Rider Combination of the grade on ‘Rugby’.

Our two sub juniors, Roy Lawler and Emily Wamsley, played with the Quirindi Under 12’s and they too won their grade.
