Calling All the Foxy Ladies

JANE Ryan, a successful local financial planner, was inspired by the talents of local women, but saw the need for a space for them to share their ideas and decided to launch a new networking group, ‘All the Foxy Ladies’ in Scone.

“I’m constantly surprised by the depth of experience and talent of women living in the Scone and Hunter community. And I also see women who have moved here, or have lived here their entire lives and are trying to work out the best path to change to a new career or start a new business. It just made sense to create an environment where we could all come together and help each other,” said Ms Ryan.

“What cemented the need for me? A lady approached me who had worked in the same job, with the same employer for more than 30 years,” she said.

“She wanted help making a change, I was able to help her put together a resume, talk about the job interview process and highlight the skills she had accumulated without her really realising it.

“Then, on the other hand I see women, some who are retired, only too willing to share their knowledge and expertise to help other women in their careers and businesses. So it’s simply a matter of connecting people,” Jane Ryan said.

The new networking group is more than business, it is about supporting women at all ages and stages of life, Jane said.

“There are many women who move to town and don’t know anyone. They may have moved with their partner’s work, or have a young family and are looking to simply get to know people in town,” she said.

“Scone is attracting new people for a range of reasons, they bring new different ideas and talents, but they also need to be able to connect with other women; women who share their aspirations and concerns, and understand the things that interest them from day to day,” said Jane Ryan.

There will be a different speaker each event, with Robyn Fordyce-Wheeler the inaugural speaker.

“Robyn was the vice captain of Cromer High School in 1983 and is part of the The Teacher’s Pet podcast,” said Ms Ryan.

“She has been interviewed by the New York Times, extensively by The Australian and by the Newcastle Herald on the murder of Lyn Dawson and the sexual abuse of teenagers at the school and on the Northern Beaches in the 1970’s and 80’s,” she said.

“Her account of Chris Dawson and his peers, her insights into the disappearance of his wife and how the students were involved is incredibly interesting; while instrumental in challenging social attitudes of the time, Robyn is down to earth and highly approachable,” she said.

“Robyn has, over the 35 year interim since Cromer High, enjoyed success as a writer and corporate communications professional”, she said.

“Robyn has been involved in various high profile corporate successes and disasters. She now lives in Newcastle and is pursing her passion for all things Sri Lankan, recently launching a business partnership with artisans and craftspeople in the silk and jewellery industries,” she said.

“A non-conformist from the outset, Robyn has carved her own path and her chat with All The Foxy Ladies is guaranteed to offer food for thought, plus a few nods of recognition!” Jane Ryan said.
