Calling all Kids: Protest Tomorrow

Filed in Recent News by October 29, 2018

FOLLOWING tonight’s Council meeting a protest is being planned for tomorrow outside Council’s chambers at 3:30pm tomorrow.

The organisers were bitterly disappointed by the Council’s decision to restrict children from entering the pool unaccompanied by an adult until they are 13 years of age.

Concerned residents were lobbying Council to keep the previous policy where only 10 year olds and under needed to be accompanied by an adult, but Council voted for the new policy.

“It’s important our kids are heard and there are still so many concerns about the Council’s policy,” Ms McInerny said.

“We need to continue to fight for this change, as this is only current for a year and then they may put the age up even further,” she said.

“We need children to voice their concerns and we will be having a protest outside Council’s chambers at 3:30pm tomorrow,” said Brook McInerny.

Councillor Sue Abbott said in tonight’s meeting, she will not rest on this issue.

A Current Affair will be covering the story, which they see may affect so many country towns this summer.
