POLICE are still searching for a man who walked away from his campsite at 4am yesterday morning at a Timor Caves campsite.

The party of three adults and one child were camping at the site when the 43 year old walked in a westerly direction away from the site.

The campers had been consuming alcohol when the man walked away from the site with the possibility of him hitch hiking from the area.

Police forensic services have set up a crime scene around the campsite and have been taking evidence should the man not be located.

Police Inspector Shane Buggy is co-ordinating the search with the assistance of SES, Volunteer Rescue from Quirindi and Murrurundi, police Operations Support Group and police Search and Rescue.

“We are concerned for his safety  but the media release has given hope that he may have left the area” Inspector Shane Buggy said.

Police will continue to search the area with a request for the PolAir helicopter and the police dog squad to attend.

“There was a good preliminary response from the media release but we must eliminate the possibility he is still in the area until we can establish otherwise” said Shane Buggy.

The other campers declined to speak to scone.com.au
