Cottage Best Steak Again

THE Cottage restaurant in Scone has crowned New South Wales Regional Steak Restaurant winner at the 2017 Awards for Excellence held at Luna Park on Monday night.

They were also awarded the Northern New South Wales Consumer Vote Award.

The business has only be operating for two years and this is the second time they have been awarded best New South Wales Regional Steak Restaurant.

Colin Selwood, owner of the Cottage took his team to Sydney for the event which was judged by industry peers.

“It’s fantastic, it cements in that we are doing a good job, that we are working hard and we still try to maintain attention to detail,” said Mr Selwood.

“It’s good for staff morale as well, they all got involved and I tool them all down to the awards night, it is judged by our peers and it is like a thankyou,” he said.

Mr Selwood has a passion for good steak, sourcing and aging the produce to deliver an award winning experience.

“We source a fantastic product from Wingham and it’s to my specs so I wanted an animal that has to British breeds and it is also an older animal…all our animals that we get are at least two years of age so it has more time walking around paddocks to develop flavour,” he said

“For me grass fed product is what I was wanting and then we make it better by dry aging it, the dry aging process does two things to the meat, it makes it more tender and makes the flavour better,” he said.

“I wanted to be a steak restaurant, that is why I put a dry aging room in, because it is a passion of mine,” he said.

The award is not just based on the meals presented, but the overall performance of the restaurant.

“It is about our steak because we are a steak restaurant but it’s not purely about steak, there is the food, the service, everything,” he said.

“We couldn’t do this without the continued support from our customers and a big thanks to the staff who help me run this place everyday because I wouldn’t be able to do it without them,” Colin Selwood said.
