Councillor Angered by Septic Mess

COUNCILLOR Lee Watts made a post on her Facebook page this evening voicing her anger on the Council’s handling of the closure of septic services, their lack of transparency and accountability.

Ms Watts has kindly allowed for us to reproduce her post:

“I am angry that I have found out through scone.com that the disposal of septic waste will no longer be available in the Upper Hunter Shire Local Government area.

“My concern is that as a Councillor on the Upper Hunter Shire I had no knowledge that there were any issues with the septic waste facility.

“There was no report or discussion about this issue brought to my attention in any Council Forum or briefing or to my knowledge to anyone in the community.

“A local business has been closed and families that have septic tanks will have to find additional money to access services further afield.

“This is a service that should not be taken away without first looking for alternatives and having considerable discussion and consultation with everyone involved.

“Further to this is the issue that liquid from septic waste may have been seeping into the local groundwater.

“I would totally support funding the required upgrades to keep this service in the Upper Hunter Shire.

“Today I still have heard nothing from Council, no briefing and no information,” Lee Watts said.
