Creeks and Rivers to Bank On

Filed in Recent News by March 14, 2017

MORE than 100 local farmers have already registered for a free workshop in Murrurundi to learn how to better manage creeks and registration closes at the end of this week.

The workshop and bus tour is tailored for the creeks and brooks of the Upper Hunter region with tips to reduce maintenance costs and rehabilitate local waterways such as erosion management and designing and building creek crossings.

The bus tour will include riverside sessions on grazing and weed management, off-stream water installations, and advice on what to plant where.

Fiona Marshall, major projects officer for Hunter Local Land Service said the workshop was the perfect opportunity to get advice from locally based staff and see first-hand how other landholders combat erosion and rehabilitate their riverbanks.

The workshop will include an update on the recommendations for Giant Reed control following a project undertaken by the local Murrurundi Landcare working group and the Pages River Warriors working with Hunter Local Land Services to combat the invasive species.
