Mr John Robinson Jnr, chief executive officer of Australian Pacific Coal said the report showed the importance of developing the Dartbrook mine.

“This CRE (coal resource estimate) confirms Dartbook as one of the largest under developed coal operations in the Hunter Valley,” said Mr Robinson.
“It reaffirms our long-held belief that Dartbrook is a tier one mining asset that has the potential to create a significant number of job opportunities for the local community,” he said.
“The high quality of Dartbrook’s coal will also help meet global demand for low ash Australian premium thermal coal, which will continue to play a critical role in meeting future energy needs,” John Robinson said.
Currently the mine is restricted to an underground operation, but Australian Pacific Coal have consistently stated they will seek approval for the mine to become an open cut operation.
The report is based on coal to 350 metres depth being accessible to open cut mining in mining lease 1497 and through the exploration lease areas.
The report describes the potential of the mine as having:
  • a low stripping ratio even to depths of 500 metres;
  • a large freehold land package of more than 3,400 hectares covering the majority of the mining area and
  • mining leases and coal leases covering 3,268 and exploration leases and authorised permits covering 3,800 hectares.
