THE primary school touch football gala in Scone doubled in size this year with more than 300 students from Scone, Aberdeen, Muswellbrook and Denman.

Matthew Kiddle, game development officer for NSW Touch Football said the gala day was designed to give all children the opportunity to make the team.

“Some schools have brought their whole year along, which is great because all children can play,” said Mr Kiddle.

“It is about having fun and learning skills, not competition, so everyone can try the game,” he said.

Joanne Critchley, teacher from St Mary’s Primary School in Scone said they had brought all of their stage 4 and 5 children.

“The gala day is so much fun and we wanted to give all of the children to be part of the day,” said Ms Critchley.

“Children who may not normally play get the chance and they can learn skills they otherwise may not pick up,” she said.
