“COME and park on the fence, sit back and enjoy something fair dinkum Aussie this weekend and watch the dogs,” said Brian Hunt.

The Upper Hunter Championship Sheep Dog Trial trial has been a regular feature in Murrurundi for 100 years, with some years missed during the war or drought, but fortunately drought has not stopped the show this weekend, in fact there is one of the highest entries in years.

“There are 110 dogs in the open and 125 in the novice,” said Mr Hunt.

“We thought numbers might have been down, because we all know how hard it is getting away during a drought,” he said.

“We think it has a bit to do with the drought and other events being cancelled,” he said.

“We were lucky to have Peter and Rhonda Thrift from Timor donate sheep which are in great condition,” he said.

“The two grounds here look magnificent considering the drought,” he said.

Contestants are travelling from throughout the eastern seaboard and local sheep dog trialler, Kenny Robinson will be there working the dog he won the current Australian championship with.
