Donga Ding Dong

DARACON and the Roads and Maritime Services have confirmed the dongas at their storage site in Scone’s industrial estate will be used as office space and not accommodation for workers.

The RMS has advised long-term workers on the Scone bypass project will rent houses in the local area, with short-term workers using local accommodation in the Scone and surroundings area.

It is estimated there will be up to 60 workers each week involved with the project over the next two weeks.

Peter Tuilla, leasee of the Colonial Motor Lodge in Scone said there have only been a few people stay at their motel to date.

“We’ve had a couple of workers stay so far, some of the siltation people have stayed here for a few nights, but that’s not to say there’s not more to come,” said Mr Tullia.

“We’ve had people staying from Downer who are working on the railway shut down and we’ve had a little bit of overflow from mining, but the next week looks fairly quite so I’m really not sure how much we’ll get out of it the way it is shaping up,” he said.

“We’ll give it twelve months and see what happens,” Peter Tullia said.

Mac Dawson from Ray White Real Estate said they have had a few phone calls enquiring about rental accommodation for workers.

“We’ve had two we’ve rented so far, but they are more wanting furnished houses, which there aren’t many of, but all the work is looking good,” Mac Dawson said.
