Farewell Scone Golf Course

On Saturday, September 16 over 80 golfers took part in a “Farewell to the Current Course” day at Scone. An 18 Hole 4 Person Ambrose was played in windy but warm conditions. The prizes from the Scone RSL Group were very generously distributed throughout the field, and all players were appreciative of the sausage sizzle during the round, and the post-game photo display on screen in the club.

The big winners were Donna Campbell, Sean Constable, Ross Higham and David Walters who had 53 & 5/8ths nett for their fabulous scratch round of 62! Second place went to David Casson, Sam Casson, Joel Harrison and Tim Smith 57 & 1/8th, and third to Stacey Dykes, David Druce, Brodie Wilson and Trevor Wilson 57 & 3/8ths. The Bradman’s prize of momento hats were happily accepted by the longest playing members in the club, Elizabeth and John Kevans and Marie and John Murray. Long-time Captain Ross Banks spoke of the sadness related to the day due to so many fine memories associated with the course, but also of the excitement and anticipation of a quality golf course that will be the outcome. Likewise, Patron Elizabeth Kevans spoke about the wonderful times that had been had on the course and in the clubhouse, and the eagerness to play the re-developed course in 2018.

Prior to the afternoon golf session, the members were presented with detailed information about the design and construction of the new course by Pacific Coast Design and McMahons construction.

On Sunday those who wished to have a final game were treated to extreme golf pin positions as an extra challenge! Winner of the Red Tee Challenge was Col Solway who had 24 points with second to Ross Banks 22, and third Sean Constable 20.

The ladies played 18 Hole 3 Person Ambrose on Thursday, September 14 for Jo Brown, Ann Cameron and Annie Woods’ Trophy. The winners were June Jukes, Joan Shaw and Pam Manning who had 64 nett from runner ups Jo Brown, Julie Leckie and Narelle Rutter on 67 nett. Narelle also won the NTP on the 17th.

Julie Leckie had a great outing in the two day Nelson Bay Classic on September 11 and 12. In the scratch, the second round of 87 placed Julie equal second in the daily event and fifth overall in Division 1. On Tuesday September 19 a good contingent of nine Scone players will travel to Merriwa for their open day. It is also the Hunter River District Golf Association Sandgreens Championship.

The golf course is now closed for re-development and Scone players will be visiting the local clubs during the coming months. With the season now concluded the combined men’s and ladies Presentation Night will be held on Saturday, October 21.

Enjoying the farewell: Ross Higham, Donna Campbell, David Walters and Sean Constable.
