THE fashions on the field were not the only spectacle at the Scone Cup as Barnaby Joyce, deputy prime minster fumbled his way through a sash presentation to the winner of the best dressed local Chelsea Stuart.

Mr Joyce began well giving a speech about his support of the local thoroughbred industry but became all fingers and thumbs as he presented the sash to Ms Stuart.

The awkwardness was compounded by Sharon Lenton who was judge of fashion on the field when she said, “it’s not the first girl he has sashed.”

Fortunately the winners of fashion on the field kept their decorum throughout and shared in $20,000 worth of prizes in one of the richest country fashion of the field events.

First prize was awarded to Bri McDougall from Cremorne.

It is the second year she has been to the Scone Cup carnival and said she loved the atmosphere of the country races and local people.

She started her outfit with her skirt and once she decided on her orange top she sourced some material for a jacket, which she designed and had made.

Bri then went to Sonlia Fashion based in Queensland to design her hat based on the fabrics in her outfit.

The prize for best dressed went to Chelsea Stuart from Scone who found her outfit at Myer.

Chelsea sent a photo of her dress to Cynthia Bryson a milliner in Canberra who designed her head piece around her dress.

The prize for best hat went to Coral Hagan from Scone.

Coral sent an image of her skirt to Locopa Designs who made the winning headpiece for her.

The winner of best dressed man was Cristopher Hale from Nelson’s Bay, with worthy runner-ups being Joshua Burgess and Pedro Souerwald.

Major sponsors included: Emirates Airline, Hello World, La Fleur D’Alyse, Potter Macqueen, Morrison Bar and Oyster Room, Zac and Tallulah and KLJ Millinery.
