Fire Contained but Stay Vigilant

THE Sir Ivan Fire has been officially contained but with warmer and windy weather people are asked to stay vigilant around the fire area.

Angela Daly from the Rural Fire Service said there are still about 150 fire fighters in the area monitoring and blacking out hotspots.

“The fire is contained and is sitting at an advice level, that being the case we still have in the vicinity of 150 fire fighters working on the fire ground, we are certainly not out of the woods, it is very hot out there today and windy as well” Ms Daly said.

“They have been tasked with the hotspots which have been picked up by our thermal imaging camera’s”.

The crews are blacking out the hotspots but the embers not yet detected could cross containment lines in the hot windy weather.

“We need people to remain vigilant, they need to stay up to date with what’s happening in their area, we do have crews there, we still have aircraft but the situation could change quickly”. said Angela Daly.
