Fire Warning and Snow Possible

WHILE Scone will enjoy a temperature of 29 degrees today and 33 degrees on Wednesday, the temperature will snap back to 18 degrees on Thursday due to a cold front which will bring with it the possibility of snow on the Barrington down to 1,200 metres and risk of fires.

“The cold is bringing quite cool air and the combination of that cool air with the atmospheric moisture is giving the right conditions for snow around the Barrington Tops region in the morning on Thursday,” said Jordan Notara from the Bureau of Meteorology.

“The conditions ahead of the front may be something to keep an eye on for elevated fire danger so keep up to date with the Rural Fire Service and the Bureau’s warning page,” he said.

Unfortunately the forecast for decent rain is not good.

“We’re only seeing a couple of mils come out of the showers into Thursday morning,” he said.

“As spring comes along the chance of more frontal seasonal rain is becoming less likely, there may be more coastal showers and maybe afternoon showers inland as it starts to get closer into summer,” he said.

“Unfortunately the dry conditions are expected to continue,” Mr Notara said.

On Friday the expected top temperature is 23 degrees, Saturday 25 degrees and Sunday 20 degrees.
