JAMIE Cust appeared via video link in the Muswellbrook Local Court today from Long Bay goal, charged with murdering Jesus C. Bebit, known as Jess, in Scone on December 18 last year.

Donna Smith, from Joplin Lawyers represented Mr Cust, as a legal aid client and explained to the court that she had not had the opportunity to meet with Mr Cust, due to delays in the decision for legal representation and legal aid processes and requested an adjournment to allow her to meet with Mr Cust.

The police prosecutor applied for a final order for forensic procedures, which had not been granted when the matter first appeared in Muswellbrook Court in December.

The Prosecutor explained that there was a “very large amount of materials that needs to go through a certain process” and advised they anticipated a six month wait for forensic evidence to be available.

The Magistrate Susan Horan did not grant the forensic order explaining Mr Cust should first be able to access legal advice on the matter.

The Magistrate noted it was a Scone matter, but since there were no video link facilities in the Scone Court there was discussion between parties as to where the matter should continue to be held, with the Magistrate deciding on Tamworth court.

The forensic order was adjourned until March 4 in Tamworth Court and the matter was also listed for mention in Tamworth on April 15.

Friends and family of Mr Bebit were present in the court and an Aunt remarked that they did not understand why Jess had been murdered and why he was not just punched and knocked out, “why was he killed?”
