Found in Plastic Bag, Now Framed

A guernsey with the signatures of notable trainers and jockeys from the Scone Cup Calcutta in 1998 had been left rolled up in a plastic bag until now.

The guernsey was given to Christine Smith, who has organised the Calcutta for many years.

“When I saw the autographs that were on there, there was no point in it staying in a plastic bag!” Ms Smith said.

“There are many trainers and jockeys who have since retired on here, but also notable people who are still very active in the industry,” she said.

“This was also the first guernsey the Horse Festival produced, so we thought having it framed was the best way to preserve this piece of local memorabilia,” Christine Smith said.

The signatures include Gai Waterhouse, Robert Thompson, Danny Beasley, Shane Dye, Neil Rae, Reg Inglis, Glen Boss, Larry Cassidy, Neil Rae, Alan Scorse, Bill Mitchell, Corey Brown, Jock Gollogby, Harry Troy, Allan Robertson and many more.
