FOUR local studs sold horses for more than $1 million yesterday at the Inglis Easter sales.

Segenhoe Stud sold lot 135 which was a half brother to Winx for $2.3 million, Arrowfield sold lot 113 a colt by Reedoute’s Choice for $1.5 million, Newgate sold lot 42 a colt by Fastnet Rock for $1.2 million and Yarraman Park sold lot 166 a colt by Hinchinbrook.

Johnathon D’Arcy, bloodstock manager for Inglis said this year’s sale had held firm to last year’s so far, which was pleasing.

“As we stand at the moment we’ve sold 77 percent of the offering and looking to get that up to over 80 percent and I am sure that will be the case,” said Mr D’Arcy.

“The gross amount so far is $40,092,000 and an average of $294,000 so slightly up on last years average,” he said.

“The top price was for lot 135 that’s a Snitzel out of Vegas Showgirl that’s a half brother to Winx who won the Doncaster on Saturday and he was sold for $2.3million to Gai Waterhouse racing.

“The second highest price was 1.5million for lot 113 the Redoute’s Choice colt out of Top Cuban and it was bought by Shadwell Stud.

“It was a very pleasing start for the sales

“The leading buyer at the moment is Shadwell Stud, they’ve bought 11 horses for $5.4 million, Gai Waterhouse has bought five horses for $3.5 million and Shiek Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Maktoum has bought four for $2.8 million,” he said.

“It has been great to see the strength of last year hold firm this year and looking forward selling a lot of very nice horses,” Johnathon D’Arcy said.

The colt sold by Newgate Farm yesterday for $1.2million, by Fastnet Rock and Rose of Cimmaron.

Sam Fairgray general manager of Newgate said they were pleased with the sale of the colt by Fastnet Rock.

“It was a super result and he was a lovely horse,” said Mr Fairgray.

“He was a full brother to a horse called Ballpoint which has shown a lot of promise on the track,” he said.

“It has been a great effort by the staff to prepare the horse and get him there looking the way he did and with a pedigree to match, he was a popular prize going through the sale and we were thrilled with the result.

“In total we will have 20 horses going through and we look forward to another good day with five going through with a filly which should also attract a lot off attention by Fastnet Rock,
