NIGEL Bates renowned English percussionist will be visiting Scone on Tuesday evening to give a lecture on ‘Percussion Use and Abuse’.

Nigel is currently the Music Administrate for The Royal Ballet and while his career has been based in Europe he also spent time in Central Queensland on the Messiah Project and is pleased to be returning to Australia for the Australian Decorative and Fine Arts Society’s (ADFAS) lecture tour.

Hilary Nicol, secretary of Scone ADFAS said they were looking forward to Nigel’s lecture on the role of percussion from armies to orchestras and the number of people attending the lectures is growing.

“We have a membership of more than 100 people and the lectures are well attended,” Ms Nicol said.

“Some people think they probably wouldn’t be interested, but are always pleased they came along because they find out all these things they wouldn’t have known about,” she said.

“We’ve had some fantastic people this year who’ve talked about time in Tibet, a Dutch woman talking about women in art and there is a lovely one coming up on the cuisine of art and the art of cuisine,” she said.

“Nigel is a really sought after lecturer, so I am really looking forward to it,” said Hilary Nicol.
