Game Changing Election

JOHN Preston, Upper Hunter candidate for the Shooters, Fishers and Farmers party launched his campaign last night in Muswellbrook and said the coming state election would be a game changer for regional New South Wales.

Robert Brown, Upper House Member of Parliament said John Preston was the ideal candidate for the Upper Hunter based on his experience negotiating in the “big end of town” and with government.

The SFF party has had members in the Upper House, but are now focusing on representatives for the lower house and after Orange turning away from the Nationals, believe the same could happen in the Upper Hunter where voters feel taken for granted.

“2019 has to be a game changing election for New South Wales, it has to be, we are in a lot of strife and we have to put the case for regional New South Wales,” said Mr Preston.

“We are in the middle of an horrendous drought and even though the Nationals are in power, they have given no financial support to farmers, just more debt and the government will profit off the interest,” he said.

“There are six funerals a week in the Hunter due to road deaths and it is rising, but there are only six a week in the Sydney Basin and that is dropping,” he said.

“And the school results, some things you don’t react to as a political candidate, some things you react to as a parent,” he said.

“Local health services has become nothing more than a triage system for the John Hunter and social services across the board are declining,” he said.

“And regional areas are being met with callous indifference and it makes my blood boil,” John Preston said.

Country Labor has announced Martin Rush will be their candidate for the Upper Hunter and the Nationals are yet to announce if they will still back the current Member of Parliament Michael Johnsen.
