THE skies are predicted to clear in time for Aberdeen Highland Games this weekend and organisers are expected another big year.

Charles Cooke, president of the Aberdeen Highland Games said last year they had more than 7,500 visitors, this year they are expecting a similar number and they are offering free tickets to four lucky scone.com.au readers. (See details below).

“It doesn’t matter if you’re not of Scottish ancestry, it is just a great day out for the whole family,” said Mr Cooke.

“The most popular display are the tartan warriors, I mean everyone loves the tartan warriors, they’ve been there every year and they never cease to attract a crowd,” he said.

“Other draw cards are the defence force federation guard, we have 13 pipe bands, dancers and I think people also like to fossick around in the stalls and we had 20 odd different clan societies there and people can find out where they may have come from,” he said.

“We’ve got quite a good line up of food stalls with a little bit of variety this year, we’ve got a Greek cuisine, an Asian cuisine, which I think people like and we’ve got two suppliers of haggis there on the ground and also black sausage and pies, so you can eat until your hearts content.

“Williams Grant and Sons will also be there giving out samples of their fine product,” he said.

“And the Chef of the Day is the Honourable Sandy McDonald former Australian senator, who is fourth generation Australian Scot,” Charles Cooke said.
