Leah Marchant, publicity officer for the Club said they have been running for more than 40 years and while other areas no longer have a garden club theirs is thriving.

“There are young people who have bought their first home and want some tips on landscaping through to people like me who’ve been a horticulturalist for 30 years and I’m still learning,” said Ms Marchant.

“There is nothing like talking to other local people to learn what grows best in our area and what will be problematic,” she said.

“Because we often go to peoples farms we often also learn about cattle, sheep and agriculture,” she said.

“Once a month we meet, sometimes we might have speaker from somewhere like the weed authority and others we will visit a local garden, or go for a trip out of area for the day,” she said.

“In June we are going to Tilses’ Apple Orchard, looking at the gardens and tasting some cider,” she said.

“We definitely encourage more people to come along to the Club and the morning teas and lunches with the Club are incredible,” she laughed.

“When we have a lunch usually everyone brings a plate and there is old fashioned vanilla slice, a range of quiches and it’s hard to work out what to eat first,” Leah Marchant said.
