Generosity for Daffodil Day

Filed in Recent News by August 29, 2016

“THERE are people that come up very quietly and slip you a note and they just say, ‘I don’t want anything,’ and they are often the ones who have been touched by cancer and know how important cancer services and research is,” said Cath Coady, volunteer for the Scone and District Cancer Support Group.

On Friday, local volunteers walked the streets of Scone and raised more than $8,000 for Daffodil Day.

The Scone Primary School raised $1,087, with more merchandise having to be delivered during the day.

“The Scone community has once again been very generous,” said Mrs Coady.

“Our volunteers love helping on Daffodil Day and people see them coming down the street in their yellow aprons and people wait for them to give them a donation,” she said.

“The money for daffodil day goes to the Cancer Council in Newcastle, which uses the money for research and they also subsidise accommodation which many local people use when they are having cancer treatment in Newcastle,” she said.

“When you have been touched by cancer you see how small the Cancer Council and local support groups help in a range of ways,” she said.

The group would like to thank TransCarefor the use of their boardroom, Tilse Building and Tilse Apples for the use of their shed to store the daffodils, Coles Supermarket and the volunteers who gave their time.
