THIS weekend families will flock to Glenbawn Dam in the hope of landing a big bass or fat yellowbelly.

People have been making the pilgrimage to the Glenbawn Fishing Classic for 26 years making it the longest running event at the Dam.

President of the Aberdeen Fishing Club, Peter Warbrick said they are looking forward to another great event and he encourages more families to throw in a line.

“It is a family oriented fishing competition and the proceeds we make from it go back to stocking Glenbawn Dam with fish,” said Mr Warbrick.

“There are many species in the dam to be caught with preservation of the fishery a key element of competition,” he said.

“It’s all catch and release now in competition, from memory a 63cm yellowbelly was caught one year and a 57cm bass,” he said.

“Each boat has to be equipped with something to keep the fish alive,” he said.

“The event attracts local people as well as visitors to the Hunter Valley with a lot of regulars from out of town to the event,” Peter Warbrick said.
