Soon to be five year old, Marney Rogan was excited to be at the orientation and more excited about starting kindergarten next year.

“Yep, I think the sandpit will be the best thing and the swings,” said Marney.

Marney’s mum, Megan Rogan said Marney is definitely ready to start school next year.

“She is super excited and a very social child,” said Ms Rogan.

“She has been going to the Yellow Cottage and the Pre-school two days a week and I’ve been speaking with the preschool teachers to make sure she is ready for kinder next year,” she said.

“I’d heard good reports about Scone Primary and we’re definitely going to enroll,” she said.

“I’m not nervous about her starting kinder at this stage, but she is just growing up so quickly,” Megan Rogan said.

Riley Brooks, girls school captain at Scone Primary School had some sage advice for parents as they took their children to school for the first day:

  1. Remember your camera and cuddles;
  2. Wear sunglasses to hide the tears, and
  3. The entry with the purple flowers is the best spot for a photo.

Deborah Fisher, principal at Scone Primary School said they anticipate 60 students will enroll for next year’s kindergarten class.

Information was laid out in an expo style covering the cirricullum, uniforms, sports, bus transport and the range of things parents need to know.

“We are now open for enrollments and we have set out the transition times, which is when the children visit the school, stating on October 18 and going until November 15,” said Ms Fisher.

“During the transition times the children get to know the school and we also get to know the children,” she said.

“The preschools are good and they discuss with parents when they think children are ready and we visit all of the preschools to observe some children who may have additional needs,” she said.

“Today we have set up like an expo all of the information parents need to know about the school and starting kindergarten with stations for different topics,” Deborah Fisher said.
