Getting Ready for Track Work

AS preparation begins for track work at the Scone railway station, excavators, trucks, front end loaders and other life sized toys are providing plenty of entertainment for children playing in Elizabeth Park.

The passenger railway line at the Scone platform will be upgraded between 6am on Wednesday, April 27 and 8pm on Friday, April 29.

New ballast will be added to the track foundation, the current 53kg/m rail will be replaced with 60kg/m rail and the timber rail sleepers will be replaced with concrete sleepers.

There is more than 200 tonne of new material being stockpiled along St Aubin’s Street and in Elizabeth Park ready for work to begin.

The work will be done during day and night in an effort to complete the upgrade and reopen the rail line as quickly as possible.

There will also be work at Common Lane in Scone and at Parkville:

  • Mareeba Road, Parkville – work will involve upgrade of the rail loop including rerailing, resleepering and ballasting from 6am Wednesday, April 27 until 8pm Friday, April 29.
  • Common Lane, Scone – maintenance and upgrade work from 6pm Tuesday, April 26 until 6am Saturday, April 30.
