THE first golf tournament at the new Scone Golf Course is being organised as part of the Horse Festival on May 9.

Members of the Club will have first chance to try the new course, with the date still to be determined.

Heath Courtney, chief executive officer of Scone Race Club said it was a great chance to promote the new course to people outside the local area.

“Some major sponsors including the TAB and Inglis have come on board to support the day, there will be a few celebrities getting around and it will be followed by a sportsman’s lunch with a few guest speakers,” said Mr Courtney.

“SKY will be broadcasting in the morning with a big sports breakfast and over the few days of the carnival and it is a great way to showcase the new Scone golf course – a lot of effort has been put into it and what better way to promote it than through SKY,” he said.

“There are some significant prizes up for grabs, there is an I Am Invincible stallion nomination which is arguably the greatest sire in Australia at the moment and that is in the vicinity of $200,000 for a hole in one prize, it’s all about creating a bit of publicity around the Scone Golf Course,” Heath Courtney said.

Mr Courtney said the Scone Race Club would like to work to develop packages which includes race days, some golf and a stud tour to showcase the Upper Hunter.
