Paul Clarkson arrived this afternoon from Wingham to compete in the Challenge.

“I like to get here, get set up and get the horses settled in the environment,” said Mr Clarkson.

“It is fairly close to home for me,” he said.

“I made the finals in 2011 and I wouldn’t be here if I wasn’t fair dinkum, but everyone needs a bit of luck I suppose,” he said.

“There are only three or four comps like this around and this is a good event,” Paul Clarkson said.

Lochie Cossor also arrived today with his assorted animals in tow including some pigs, a bullock called Jigsaw, dogs, horses, sheep and a few goats.

“I am based up at the Stockman’s Hall of Fame in Queensland and we are entertainers on the road travelling around bringing a little bit of the outback to the Ranges,” said Mr Cossor.

“The King of the Ranges is a fantastic event to show the skills of stockman,” he said.

Lochie won the King of the Ranges Challenge in 2010.

All hands were on deck sorting out the port-a-loos today.

John Magann joked “we are the sweetest smelling guys right now.”

Tomorrow competitors will be able to walk some of the courses, with the welcome bar and sausage sizzle set to kick off at 6pm.

Competition begins on Friday and runs until Sunday afternoon.
