Getting Ready for Tennis in Gundy

THE Gundy tennis court is a hidden gem backing onto the Pages River at the Showground that has fallen into disrepair, but a group of residents have begun work to bring it back to life for the local community.

Kylie McGregegor Vella said while the group are not tennis players they saw an opportunity to bring the local community together and do something healthy.

“A few of us who were exercising down at the showground ended up down near the tennis courts and it’s just so beautiful down there that we thought maybe we should get the tennis court done again,” said Ms Vella.

“It’s fully overgrown and has been left, so we’ve just reformed a committee and we are a subcommittee of the Gundy Crown Reserve Trust,” she said.

“For now we will get it scraped back and then get it resurfaced, we have lights down there to be put up and connected and we have a tea house down there that needs repair.

“We have a priority list to fundraise for, but our biggest priority is to get on the court and start playing.

“None of us are big tennis fans, but it is just so beautiful there and it’s a community thing, to all come together, to take the kids down and we can have a BBQ together, it is an opportunity to get the community together and do something healthy,” she said.

“We are planning to have a playoff with Parkville, because they have just got theirs started and Moonan is happening, so we could get some days happening then,” she said.

“I really love Gundy and all the people in it and that is what it is all about,” said Kylie McGregegor Vella.
