THE weather may be bleak today, but spare a thought for the 65 local men braving the conditions to deliver mail on the Hawkesbury.

Having delivered mail to many of the small islands, they have knocked off for a ploughman’s lunch and are learning more about the local area from the skipper; apparently 95 percent of the information from the skipper is true.

The trip to the Hawkesbury was organised by the Scone Neighbourhood Resource Centre’s Virtual Shed project and manager Lee Watts said everyone was having a great time.

“It’s a bleak old day, but everyone is having a ball,” said Mrs Watts.

“Thankfully no one is sea sick and the weather has not dampened anyone’s enthusiasm to be out on the water,” she said.

“There are a great group from throughout the local area, Merriwa, Muswellbrook, Aberdeen, Blandford all up early to make the bus trip down and all making the most of the day,” Lee Watts said.
