ROUCHEL took out the Pink Stumps cricket game played yesterday against archrival Belltrees, at the beautiful Belltrees cricket ground.

The grudge between the two teams dates back to the mid-1800’s, but has yielded healthy benefits for the McGrath Foundation and women with breast cancer.

This year the match has raised more than $12,500 in just one day.

Katrina McCosker, founded the local event after losing a friend to breast cancer and said the result was more than the expected.

“There were other events on this weekend, so the crowd was smaller than expected, but we have been totally overwhelmed that a crowd of 150 people has raised such a significant amount,” said Ms McCosker.

“It is a lovely event where people catch up, enjoy the cricket and fundraise for a great cause,” she said.

“We had lots of helpers and fantastic supporters, there is just such generosity in our community.

“Everyone is willing to put their hands in their pockets, the sponsors are amazing and the White family of Belltrees is wonderful in providing such a great location and they are highly generous with their time,” Katrina McCosker said.

The funds raised for the McGrath Foundation provide breast care nurses, something Katrina said make a huge difference to women undergoing breast cancer care.

“I lost a friend to breast cancer and the first time she had cancer there was no breast cancer nurse to support for her,” said Katrina.

“But the difference when she again fought cancer with a breast care nurse was significant,” she said.

“Women really need someone they can pick up the phone to, help them schedule appointments, ask what to expect during treatment and generally be there for them to offer support and advice.

“The breast care nurses make a huge difference and so many people in our community are impacted by breast cancer, it doesn’t discriminate,” Katrina McCosker said.
