Healthy Visitors Welcomed Back

STRATHEARN Aged Care facility has reopened their doors to visitors following a thirteen day lock down to manage an influenza A outbreak.

Matthew Downie, chief executive officer of Strathearn Aged Care said the staff had done an excellent job during a stressful process.

“There are other facilities in Sydney which have been in lock down for five and six weeks, so the fact that our staff have been able to contain and manage the outbreak so quickly is a real credit to them,” said Mr Downie.

“Resources have been stretched because of the flu outbreak in terms of having enough gowns and gloves, which some suppliers are now sourcing from overseas due to the number of facilities needing extras,” he said.

“This outbreak has probably been the largest outbreak our staff have faced at the facility and it is a stressful process for everyone, but they have done an excellent job,” Matthew Downie said.

To protect the health of residents people are encouraged not to visit Strathearn if they are unwell and to talk to staff about basic infection control precautions they can take during visits.
