The joeys are two of 51 which have been born at the Devil Ark this season and have been chosen to fly the flag for their species at the reptile park on the Central coast for the next six months.

During the school holidays they have been the centre of attention with visitors being able to interact with cute little devils and have their photo taken with them.

The proceeds from the photographs go back to the Devil Ark and after their time in the limelight they will return to the Ark to be part of the breeding program.

Tim Faulkner, general manager of the Australian Reptile Park said the joeys are playing a vital role in raising the plight of their species.

“Koda and Kayah are such gorgeous additions to our Reptile Park family,” said Mr Faulkner.

“They’re proving to be a hit with visitors with their photos and videos popping up on social media more and more each day!”

“The Devil Ark breeding program began in 2011 with 44 animals and the population has now reached 154 animals,” he said.

“The species are classified as endangered due to the transmissible disease known as devil facial tumour disease,” he said.

“The disease has reduced the wild population to less than 90 percent in some areas of Tasmania and there is no cure or vaccine currently available,” Tim Faulkner said.
