LAST Saturday saw the Scone Rugby Union Club hold its sponsors day at Scone Rugby Park for our final game of the year.

The rugby gods were smiling as the weather conditions were appreciated by players and spectators.

The first game of the day was again the entertaining old guard of retirees looking to continue their great form.

For the second week in a row the opposition were unable to field a full side and so it became a 13 a side affair.

This definitely played into the hands of the visitors with the inclusion of several first graders enjoying the open spaces they raced in 2 early tries.

From that point it was catch up rugby for the old boys who rallied but were ultimately unable to close the gap.

Final score Barraba 31 Scone 19. Ben Mcrae, Chris Rahn, Rocket and Rooster were strong across the park yet again.

Also welcome to grade rugby Cameron Boyle and Luke Duncan who both played very well.

A big thanks from all goes out to John Maxwell who put in a big effort getting this team together and even managed to get a team to travel.

First Grade:

First grade took to the field with a strong looking outfit again tirelessly put together by our magnificent coach Luke Bailey.

The boys did not disappoint putting in another enormous effort to really keep the crowd entertained.

The opposition took an early lead but our boys showed again how much they have improved throughout the season and played some tough running rugby to truly test the visitors.

The entire first grade squad did themselves proud to lose by 31 to 22 in a gutsy encounter.

The entire forward pack were very strong with Martin Feehan again being voted players player.

Sam Barton was elusive at scrum half and Geoff Golledge put in another tough display at fly half.

Congratulations to Luke Bailey in his first year as coach doing a tremendous job with the playing group and we hope to see you back next year.

On behalf of the Scone Rugby Club I would like to thank all our sponsors for this season, without your support it would be extremely hard to keep the club operating.

Also thanks to all our supporters and volunteers.

Looking forward to continued support and success in our anniversary season in 2017.
