Letter: Heritage Policy Questioned

Filed in editorletters, Recent News by September 4, 2017

I am a resident of the Scone community, member of the Council Heritage Advisory committee and the Scone and Upper Hunter Historical Society, plus others.

I am against the demolition of number 77 Main Street Scone.

Isn’t it the intent to preserve and respect our heritage buildings?

In your policies and strategies; at the ordinary Council meeting 31 July 2017 it was stated and to be adopted the Upper Hunter Regional Cultural Development – Strategy (UHRCDS) 2017-2021  – Cultural Study Draft.

In it Scone is a precinct of heritage buildings.

Strategy 6  part  Encourage infra-structure on cultural heritage buildings.

The Upper Hunter Town Revitalisation Scone Masterplan June 2016 C-07 Action Plan –Develop heritage information (boards/online map) that provides information about heritage buildings and history of the town.

Also C-07 Provide a consultant heritage advisor (monthly) to give free advice  on proposed listings of sites or practical matters relating to maintaining or repairing heritage/character buildings.

In upholding the adopted documents by the Upper Hunter Shire Council, refusing the application is the thing to do.

Sincerely,

Carol Dawn Ray
