The organiser Lisa Purcell said she is overwhelmed with the response and says it shows the special bond that the equine community has all over the world.

“My son is the same age as Olivia and rides and competes with her,” said Ms Purcell.

“I said to him on Monday, ‘when you ride Bella today, you should ride for Olivia’ and it stemmed from there,” she said.

“It’s hard for people to know what to say or how they can help, so to create some positivity we thought people could post their favourite photo and use the hashtag #rideforolivia and then present it as a collage to her family,” she said.

“I really only thought we’d get a couple of hundred photos, but it goes to show the power of the equestrian community.

“I can’t even count on Facebook, Instagram is easier to track and we are at 23,000 photos on instagram,” she said.

“Every hour it keeps going up.

“I’ve had a lady message me from Boston on behalf of all the riders in Boston, we’ve had Ingrid Klimke from Germany, Charlotte Dujardin from England, it’s just overwhelming but so beautiful,” she said.

“It’s spread across every discipline we’ve got vaulting pictures, polo, drafting, lots of polo clubs have sent an image of the whole polo club, it’s great,” said Lisa Purcell.

To contribute a photo post your image on Instagram, Facebook or Twitter with the hashtag #rideforolivia and ensure your privacy settings for your image are set to “public”.
