MURRAY Bain Oval has been long overdue for improvements but will soon have outdoor exercise equipment, more seating, an improved toilet block with disability access, lighting and the goal posts will have a fresh coat of paint thanks to a grant of $40,805.

Mayor of the Upper Hunter Shire Council, Wayne Bedggood said the oval is ideal for young families and older residents and should be ready by August next year.

“Council is creating a more usable and welcoming space at Murray Bain Oval,” Mayor Bedggood said.

“It’s the only sporting field on the eastern side of Scone, is in a quiet residential area with minimal traffic and close to a range of low cost and social housing. It is a good location for walking and other low impact recreation for all ages,” he said.

“Families with younger children and older residents will be encouraged to use a space that is more accessible, feels safer and more attractive.

“Sensor lighting will mean residents will be able to use the equipment and facilities during the evening.

“Additional seating will be placed around the gym equipment so parents can supervise their children and be involved in their play,” he said.

“In the future there is potential for Council to offer recreation and exercise programs for older residents and all-ages, all-abilities activities at Murray Bain Oval,” Wayne Bedggood said.

The oval is named after the late Murray Bain of Scone, a veterinary surgeon who specialised in thoroughbred breeding techniques.
