From the war that was supposed to end all wars came two mounted horse, local children carrying wreaths and a smattering of all age groups grouped around the memorial gates in Murrurundi.

The Dawn Service was performed by Muswellbrook Sub-Branch official, Rick Cole, a Vietnam veteran and watched over by local veteran, Bobby Paton.

Mr Cole told the gathering, “on this day we remember the sacrifice of such men for an ideal, for a way of life.”

“Let us take strength in the knowledge and hope that our sons and daughters will never forget the examples set by their forefathers,” he said.

The benediction was read by reverend Barbara Morgan.
