Muswellbrook GM to Come to Scone

STEVEN McDonald has been appointed as the new general manager of the Upper Hunter Shire Council effective March 19.

Mr McDonald is currently the general manager of the Muswellbrook Council, where he has served since 2006 and has 32 years experience in local government.

Mr McDonald, who will move to Scone to live in the local community said he was looking forward to working with the Upper Hunter Shire Council.

Steve Mc Donald has accepted the role of general manager for Upper Hunter Shire Council.

“I’m excited about joining the organisation and being further involved in the Upper Hunter community,” said Mr McDonald.

“I look forward to building on the past successes enjoyed by the close working relationship between Upper Hunter and Muswellbrook Shire Councils,” he said.

“Whilst I am saddened to be leaving Muswellbrook Shire Council and its great people after so many years, I am excited by the new challenges ahead, including the opportunity to strengthen even further the work between the two councils for the communities of both our Shires through my new role.

“As the new General Manager of Upper Hunter Shire Council, I look forward to working with Council staff and councillors and the broader community in the years ahead,” Steve McDonald said.

Mr McDonald has worked at the Muswellbrook Shire Council for 12 years in total, worked at North Sydney Council and has a background in finance.

Mayor Wayne Bedggood welcomed Mr McDonald and Mayor Martin Rush from Muswellbrook Shire Council said he hoped the appointment would cement the relationship between the two Councils further and described him as an “honest and humble General Manager. He has had a genuine care for the welfare of each member of staff. We wish him all the best in his new role.”
