More than 120 children will take to the Scone netball courts for some school holiday fun today and tomorrow.

Michelle Warren, president of Scone Netball Association said it was the first time they had run the program and they were surprised by the enthusiasm of local children.

“It’s is the first time we have run a holiday program and it has been very popular,” said Ms Warren.

“There are some who have never played netball before, regulars who want to improve their skills and about 20 rep girls who are here to help,” she said.

“It’s great to get them out, it’s good for hand eye coordination, to be part of a team and learn about sportsmanship because it isn’t always about winning, it’s about having some fun,” she said.

“We will definitely run it again,” said Michelle Warren.

Enjoying netball: Lizzie Young, Ruby Hyland, Bailey Doughty, Matilda Ruthven, Eliza Duggan and Sarah Shankley.

Ruby Hyland said it was great fun.

“It’s nice that they thought to do this in the school holidays,” said Ms Hyland.

“It pushes you to do better and it’s great to run around with your friends,” she said.

Matilda Ruthven agreed.

“It’s hard on game day to ask questions, but we have the time here to ask them, practice our footwork and improve our skills,” said Ms Ruthven.

Net Set, Go Skills: Registration is still open for children aged 5 to 7 years, who have not played netball before to participate in the 10 week program to learn basic ball skills and equips them to play in the local netball competition.

Registrations for other grades have closed, but people are welcome to contact the Association if they are interested in playing.

Mother’s Day Raffle: The Scone Netball Association is one of the smallest associations that go to the state championships but has more than 60 athletes who participate at the state level.

The players have begun fundraising for the championships with a Mother’s Day raffle full of great prizes including dinners out, accommodation, vouchers for beauty and hair appointments, wine and cheese, chocolates and flowers, clothing and even groceries.

Local players are selling the tickets and you can contact the Association directly if you would like to support the local athletes and have a chance to win some great local prizes.
