“I understand media like stories where there is controversy but they clearly don’t understand our community if they thought there was an elephant in the room at today’s parade, I only saw horses walking down the street,” said Mrs Watts

“Today there were people from our whole community there in support of Scone’s role as the Horse Capital of Australia, people who earn their living from the equine industry, the mining industry, agriculture, small business and all kinds of local business,” she said.

“It’s just disappointing that the media from Newcastle introduced politics into today’s parade and people who watch tonight’s news who aren’t from here may get the wrong impression about our community if they go down that track with their story,” she said.

“It is completely appropriate to discuss controversial issues as a community, but I think on days like today we are one community and we take the time celebrate the role of the horse together from all walks of life,” she said.

“While I will always be open to answering questions from the media, it is just a shame that the parade may be used as a backdrop for them to link to controversy in another shire,” Lee Watts said.
