Pies Sell Like Hot Cakes

THE announcement that Towler’s Pies were making a comeback during the Horse Festival was met with great enthusiasm from locals and exceeded the Towler families expectations.

More than 1,000 pies were hand made for the parade and the finale of the Horse Festival, raising more than $2,000 for Huntington’s disease.

20160516FestivalFinale01Renee Hunt said she was worried she would do her mum’s recipe justice and that customers felt the pies were as good as they used to be.

“Mum was worried about her reputation and that we stuck to her recipe, but we did impress mum and people said we did match the flavours they remembered,” Ms Hunt.

“A few people were very disappointed because we sold out before the parade started, which we didn’t expect,” she said.

“Dad doesn’t say much, but he was quietly very chuffed that people remembered the pies and their butcher’s shop,” she said.

“We were wrapped with the response and if 100 more people have heard of Huntington’s disease and if one person decides to make Huntington’s NSW their charity then that would be wonderful,” Renee Hunt said.

The Ned Kelly and the Bolognaise pies were the biggest sellers and people are now able to buy the pies from the Royal Hotel in Scone and through home orders.

Renee said they plan on making the chicken pies next week.

They are also selling tickets in a raffle to raise money for Huntington’s disease research for $100 voucher at the Happy Wombat, a case of Tilses cider, two dozen pies and a facial for $2 per ticket.
