AT approximately 9:10am on Tuesday, April 26, a sedan was pulled over on the western side of the New England Highway facing north when it appears to have attempted a u-turn across double unbroken lines when it was hit in the driver’s side door by another north bound Ford Ranger.

The force of the impact caused the cars to travel 100 metres before coming to rest in both north bound lanes blocking traffic.

The Ford Ranger then crossed into the south bound lanes and off the eastern side of the highway colliding with semi-trailer which was parked on the eastern side of the Highway.

The driver of the semi-trailer was standing beside his truck when he was hit in the leg by a small projectile from the collision between sedan and Ford Ranger.

A ute also collided with the truck south of the white sedan.

A ute also collided with the truck south of the white sedan.

When he turned to see what had hit his leg he saw sedan coming towards him and has jumped onto the bonnet of the Ford Ranger moments before it collided with his vehicle, avoiding serious injury.

When police arrived at the scene they found the driver and passenger of the sedan were both suffering shock.

Fire and Rescue had to remove the driver’s door to free the driver from the vehicle.

The Westpac Rescue Helicopter arrived on scene and both north and south bound lanes were closed until 11:05am, with traffic banking up to south of the Wingen pub and north to Blandford.

The passenger from the sedan, a 65 year old female, was flown to the Tamworth base hospital and the driver, a 74 year old male was taken by ambulance.

At 12:01 tow trucks removed sedan and Ford Ranger from the scene and the Wingen rural fire service cleared the road of debris and fluids and all lanes were opened.
