HOUSE FIRE AT SCOTT’S CREEK

AT approximately 4pm yesterday there was a fire at a home on a property at Scott’s Creek Road, Scott’s Creek.

The residents were using their wood fire place, which they had already used several times this winter and had taken proper maintenance such as using a soot cleaner before using the fire place this winter.

The 1960-70’s designed firebox had been lit in the morning, but at 4pm the female resident noticed excessive smoke in the living room and the wall above the fire box was blistering.

She went outside to find the outside wall around the brick chimney was also blistering and hot to touch and contacted local fire fighters from Blandford.

She then got a hose and started watering the wall and put the fire out in the fire box.

Unfortunately the fire was smouldering in the wall cavity, and travelled up the wall burning the hardwood timber frame then into the ceiling rafters.

Thee male resident arrived home and got onto the roof, he used a hose to water into the roof cavity and wall of the lounge room.

Fire fighters from Wingen and Blandford Rural Fire Services arrived approximately 40 minutes later and lifted iron from the roof and extinguished the fire.

The fire was contained to the south western corner of the home.

The lounge room was extensively damaged, most of the rest of the house suffered some smoke and water damage.

There are no suspicious circumstances.
